Navigating to Whangārei

Ōkara marina is conveniently situated sea side of Whangārei's famous lifting bridge. It is recommended for sailing yachts to motor the final 3nm of the river on the rising tide and favour the outside curves of the river. Do not arrive on low tide. The best time is in the top half of the rising tide. The channel is marked and dredged to a minimum of 1 meter below Chart Datum (lowest tide). The river bottom is soft mud. The tidal range is 2-3m.

Once your vessel has been cleared into New Zealand, we look forward to welcoming you to Whangārei – whether for refit and maintenance work or simply to relax and enjoy your time in the region.
